General Statistics

    • There are 54 million singles in the United States. 5.5 million use dating services.
    • 64% of online daters say common interests are the most important factor in finding a potential partner online. 49% say it is physical characteristics from photos and videos.
    • The Better Business Bureau in the US said in 2009 they received 2,660 complaints about dating services. In 2005 they received 824 and only 126 in 2004.
    • In 2010 it is estimated that Craigslist will earn $122 million with $88 to $99 million being profit. The Adult Services listings make up 30 percent of the revenue.
    • New York State passes an Internet Dating Safety Act. It is the second state to do so.
    • On average, 10 percent of members pay for the dating service and stay for less than 3 months.
    • For singles who use dating sites, 33% form a relationship, 33% do not, and 33% give up on dating online.
    • Both men and women stretch the truth in their free internet dating profiles. While men are most likely to fib about their age, height, and income, women are more likely to lie about their weight, physical build, and age.
    • The marriage breakup rate in America for first marriage is 41% to 50%; the rate after second marriage is from 60% to 67% and the rate in America for 3rd marriage are from 73% to 74%.
